NFL Hall of Famers Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders shared the backfield, becoming the ground component of a powerful offense that became the first in Big Eight Conference history to boast the conference's leading rusher, passer, receiver scorer, and total offense leader. The air assault was led by sensational sophomore quarterback Mike Gundy, and the talented wide receiver duo of Hart Lee Dykes and Ronnie Williams.The Cowboys posted a 10-2 record in 1987, including a memorable 35-33 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers in the John Han Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.
